It’s been about a month since PhotoZoom released, and I’ve added several new features since then. Many of these features were by popular request of users who’ve sent me lots of valuable feedback.
Photo upload control
I wrote a very simple Silverlight upload control in managed code, using the OpenFileDialog class. You can select multiple jpeg files to upload them in a batch.
Embed albums in other pages
At the bottom of the page for each album, there is a text field titled “Embed this album,” which contains the HTML source for the album’s Silverlight Streaming application. You can copy the contents of this field and paste it into the HTML body of any web page to add that album, along with its zooming controls, to the page. Hint: you can change the values of width and height to whatever you like.
Album Processing Performance
We’ve made several performance changes that have improved the throughput of Deep Zoom album processing, which means that your albums should, on average, be processed sooner after uploading photos and become “zoom-able.” It still takes some time though, especially for large albums. Stay tuned for further improvements in this area.
PhotoZoom Facebook application
I’ve created a PhotoZoom application for Facebook that you can install, which adds thumbnail links to PhotoZoom albums to your
profile. It imports your Facebook photo albums automatically, each time you visit the settings page (open by clicking the PhotoZoom icon in the applications list on the left side of your Facebook profile). You can select which ones to show on your Facebook profile. Albums you create within PhotoZoom are also available for selection in all their full-resolution glory.
The cover photos of the albums you select will show up in the PhotoZoom box on your profile for others to see. Clicking on one loads the Deep Zoom album in the canvas page. You can view it in full screen mode by clicking the link above the album.
Any new albums you create or photos you add to existing albums will be picked up and processed the next time you open the settings page.
I hope you enjoy the new features. Try them out, and as always, keep the feedback coming.

good work, keep it up!!

wonderful work!
are you planning to add “zoom about mouse location”?
currently it zooms over a top left corner and it makes navigation complicated.
Also, there is a weird panning behavior when you go off limits while panning (it pans back sometimes)
Also, would be nice to be able to compose the layout by dragging the images around. If you made that, I would never go back to flickr, jalbum or any other album making tools.
keep it up!
thanks,
max

please take a look at what happens when i embed an album into my site: http://www.goldschwartz.com/2008zoomalbum.html
it’s cut very short in height. not sure how to adjust that. any thoughts?
(excuse my sheer html ignorance)

Thanks, Max.
What browser / version are you using? “zoom about mouse location” works in the browsers I’ve tested, but if it doesn’t work for you, I’ll fix it. Ditto for the panning behavior.
Stay tuned for the layout…
To adjust the size of the album embed, just change the width and height attributes of the iframe tag. E.g. width=”800″ height=”600″

I am using firefox3.
I think the panning behavior was due to one addon in my installation (hyperwords)

fixed the height, but still no “zoom about mouse” in firefox3
http://www.goldschwartz.com/2008zoomalbum.html
also, clicking on the area to be zoomed doesn’t work, is this expected?
once again, thanks for a great work. I’ve been needing to show my paintings in detail for a few years now. You solved a real world problem here for me.

…also, in explorer 7 i get this:
Before installing this version of Silverlight, please close all browser windows and uninstall all previously installed versions of Silverlight.
installed version 2.0.30523
requested version 1.0.30401.0
Should I uninstall the most recent version to view my albums?
still, the link i need is http://www.goldschwartz.com/2008zoomalbum.html
thanks!

I hadn’t tested with FF3 yet; give me a few days and I’ll have a fix.
You shouldn’t need to add a Silverlight install link to your page. If the user doesn’t have the right version of Silverlight, an “install Silverlight” icon will show up in the album iframe. That icon points to the right version of Silverlight (2 beta 2).
Can you try that?
July 8, 2008 at 8:38 pm
Thanks, i’ll try that.
i am testing with FF2 and explorer 7 on another machine and images don’t show. All i see are the “-” and “+” signs, also the scaling factor, but no images show, after I install the plugin
July 8, 2008 at 9:23 pm
Which version of Silverlight is installed (look in add/remove programs)? The correct version should be 2.0.30523.6. Did you have an earlier version installed before? Could you try to uninstall Silverlight, restart the browser and then install Silverlight again from the icon inside the album iframe?
Thanks.
July 8, 2008 at 11:59 pm
i’ll try that.
Do you think it’s possible to export from Deepzoom composer to a site without writing code? sorry to bug you with all these questions, but i’ve been trying for many hours to figure this out, with no good results, and you are clearly the expert
My album using PhotoZoom is ready, but I’d like to be able to layout the images myself and zoom when clicking, for which i guess I will have to work more…
thanks!

All I can say is, stay tuned…

I’ll keep my eyes peeled. I truly believe that this tech will change the web’s face.

This is a wonderful technology and the leanest way I know to display hi-res photoalbums. Sweet
Yet after setting up various albums and including their iframe-sourcecode into my testsite… I urgenly want more:
- setting up the default view with a starting image
– which starting image
– x & y-positioning within the image
– default zoom
- configuring background-color
- maybe even control the album’s behaviour via javascript..!
Oh boy, I’d be so happy
Do you know about any plans regarding this?
Keep up the great work!
Thanks,
aharef
